Michael Campbell quickly moved into the lead in the third round of the Dunhill Links Championship.
The New Zealander was in the first group out at Kingsbarns and a birdie on the 387-yard 10th - his first - took him alongside overnight pacesetters Darren Clarke, David Howell and Peter Lawrie at nine-under-par.
And with Fijian Vijay Singh also making a three on the hole to improve to seven under, things were even tighter at the top.
Fifteen players were separated by two strokes, 21 by three and 30 by four.
Singh began with only a level par 72 at Carnoustie on Thursday, but came back into the race for a first prize of nearly £500,000 (€722,000) with a 66 at St Andrews.
Only Ernie Els, with a 65 to move to seven under, has scored lower so far this week.
