Human rights committee slams new British anti-terror plans

An influential group of MPs has slammed the British government's plans to introduce new laws allowing suspected terrorists to be held under house arrest.

An influential group of MPs has slammed the British government's plans to introduce new laws allowing suspected terrorists to be held under house arrest.

Britain is planning to introduce the measure after the country's Law Lords ruled that previous laws allowing for the internment of suspected Islamic militants breached European human rights law.

However, the House of Commons Joint Committee on Human Rights warned today that the new law may also be in breach of the European legislation.

The committee also said there was no justification for the proposed house arrest powers and the new law was being rushed through parliament without proper scrutiny.
