Aaron Greene scored twice as holders Sligo Rovers eased into the quarter-finals of the FAI Ford Cup with a facile win at First Division Monaghan United in their fourth round replay at Gortakeegan tonight.

Sligo now host the winners of Monday’s replay between UCD and Shamrock Rovers in the last eight.

Monaghan’s bright start counted for nothing as Sligo stunned them with two goals within eight minutes midway through the first half.

The opener arrived on 23 minutes when Joseph Ndo’s in-swinging corner was headed home from just a couple of yards out by defender Gavin Peers.

A terrific build-up led to the second goal on the half hour, when Ndo, Eoin Doyle and Alan Kirby all combined to set up Greene to shoot past Gabriel Sava in the Monaghan goal.

Midfielder Kirby added a third goal to kill off the game six minutes into the second half when he shot to the net to finish off good work again by Ndo and Doyle.

Greene got his second of the night four minutes from time.
