Newly elected Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin will chose his deputy leader and backroom staff over the coming days.

He is expected to name his deputy leader tomorrow.

The 51-year-old from Cork was elected as the 8th leader of the party yesterday, beating off competition from Brian Lenihan, Mary Hanafin and Eamon O'Cuiv.

Mr Martin has already challenged Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore to a range of election debates.

He also apologised for the mistakes of the Government, and any that he had made as Minister.
