Murphy double at Rasen

Timmy Murphy is riding at the top of his form and took his score in the past 15 days to 13 winners when completing a double on Supreme Catch and Tora Bora at Market Rasen.

Supreme Catch travelled well and, taking up the running at the second last in the GBM Waste Management Handicap Chase, was ridden out to the line to score by three and a half lengths from Wicked Nice Fella.

The nine-year-old carries the colours of Kempton Park chairman Nigel Clark, and is trained by Henrietta Knight, who said: “Supreme Catch has not been the luckiest horse, but when he gets it right he can still run a nice race, he travelled well and he will make a hell of a hunter-chaser.”

Tora Bora did not appear to be going all that well as they raced to the home turn in the GBM Environmental Novices’ Chase.

He then made ground to lead approaching the third-last fence and then a bit of luck came into play at the final fence.

Bougoure was going well and was upsides the leader when he slipped on landing - losing all chance and leaving Tora Bora to stay on gamely up the hill to score by two lengths from Wiscalitus.

Tora Bora is trained by Brendan Powell for David Johnson, and the former said: “He was race fit and he got all the allowances, though Timmy said he did not travel as well as last time.

“He is most genuine but we may put the blinkers back on to help his concentration.”

Johnson had flown in by helicopter and his Classic Dream, also trained by Powell and ridden by Murphy, was expected to take the opening GBM UK Juvenile Maiden Hurdle.

However, he found Vince Smith’s Capitalise four lengths too good.

Capitalise, who was Philip Hide’s only ride of the afternoon, is part-owned by Smith’s landlord David Jenkins.

Jenkins said: “Capitalise was very disappointing on the Flat.

“We tried him over trips from a mile to one mile six furlongs, but he always seemed to finish fifth or sixth.

“The horses weren’t running very well in the summer, but Vince has had three winners in about 10 days now.”

Alex Hales also has his horses in good form and Secret Pact provided him with his third winner in a week under conditional Willie Kennedy in the second division of the GBM Demolition Novices’ Hurdle.

Hales said: “The owners bought this horse themselves out of the Mark Johnston stable and all credit to them they have bouht a winner.

“He had the speed to win over a mile on the Flat but he will stay three miles jumping – I thought te Alan Bailey horse (Golden Boot) was going to come and do us, but my horse picked up again.

“It was a bad race really and I don’t know if he can defy a penalty.”

Conditional Phil Kinsella was suspended for one day (Nov 16) for using his whip when out of contention on Ellerslie, who finished last of the eight finishers.

John Cornwall heaved a sigh of relief as Kercabellec, whom he also owns, won the GBM Civils Handicap Chase.

“We have not had a winner for a while,” said Cornwall.

“This is the first time Padge (Whelan) has ridden him and he gave the horse a super ride.”

Andrew Thornton was taken to hospital with a suspected broken jaw after taking a heavy fall from Honest Abe at the fourth-last fence.

Malcolm Jefferson’s Wot Way Chief landed a gamble under Graham Lee in the concluding GBM Recycling Handicap Hurdle.

Jefferson said: “I saw him running out in a field at Norton Grange Stud and liked him so I bought him.

“He is a big horse for a five-year-old and he has already been schooled over fences.”
