The Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald has reiterated her commitment to hire 60 new social workers this year.

The Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald has reiterated her commitment to hire 60 new social workers this year.

Earlier this month, the HSE said that recruitment had stopped short of signing contracts.

But Minister Fitzgerald said she had received assurances that the posts would be filled by December.

According to this morning's Irish Examiner, referrals to child protection teams are expected to top 25,000 by the end of the year.
