Irish fish stocks are in a critical state. That is according to the latest report from the marine Institute which shows that cod stocks could take up to eight years to recover.

The institute says its vital that stocks are in good shape if the fishing industry here is to survive.

The EU fisheries council is meeting next month to discuss the issue of falling stocks.

Fishermans' groups say they are concerned that quotas could be cut.

Frank Doyle from the Irish Fishermans Organisation says that could drive fishermen out of business.
