A teenager was beaten overnight by seven men with iron bars in a paramilitary-style attack.
The youth, 16, was seized in the Rosemount area of Derry at 9pm last night and bundled into the back of a car by three masked men.
He was taken to an area close to the Creggan shops where he was beaten by at least seven men wielding iron bars.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) spokeswoman said the youth was taken to hospital, where his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Meanwhile, police in Derry were also investigating a petrol bomb attack on a newspaper deliveryman last night.
The driver was dropping off newspapers at a local shop in Church Brae when he heard a bang. He saw a blaze on the ground and a man attempting to light a second device from the flames of the first.
A PSNI spokeswoman said: “The driver got in the lorry and drove off. As he was doing so, the attacker ran alongside the vehicle and threw the second device, striking the lorry’s wing mirror.”
The attack caused scorch damage to the lorry and to the wall of the shop. Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
