Forecasters in the US are warning of another hurricane headed their direction which is threatening to swell into a major storm by the weekend.

Hurricane Katia, which is heading westward in the deep Atlantic, is already packing winds of 75 miles an hour.

Those winds are expected to strengthen in the coming days.

The warning comes just a week after Irene caused massive flooding in the US northeast and left at least 43 people dead across 11 states.

President Obama is to visit some of the worst hit areas of New Jersey over the weekend.
