Taoiseach Brian Cowen has refused to be drawn on speculation that sovereignty over our budget could be taken away by Europe.

It has been reported today that Brussels is about to demand in a document to be published later that eurozone Governments get pre-approval for the amount of borrowing every year.

Mr Cowen told the Dáil this morning that he won't comment on unpublished reports.

Pushed on the matter by Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny, Mr Cowen would not say if the European demands were true or would be objected to by Government.
