GAA president Nickey Brennan has offered his condolences to the wife and family of former President of Ireland Dr Patrick Hillery, who passed away this morning.

"I would like to extend my sympathy to the wife and family of the late Dr Hillery," Brennan said.

"He always gave his support to the activities of Cumann Luthchleas Gael and he was a regular at Croke Park especially for All-Ireland finals."

The GAA President added: "He also was, for a time, a patron of our Association and may he rest in peace."

A minute's silence took place at midday at GAA Congress in Sligo in respect of the late Dr Hillery.
