Groups call for protection of migrant workers

On International Migrant's Day, the The Immigrant Council of Ireland and the Migrant's Right Centre are calling for ratification on the UN Migrant Worker's Convention.

On International Migrant's Day, the The Immigrant Council of Ireland and the Migrant's Right Centre are calling for ratification on the UN Migrant Worker's Convention.

They are asking the Government to sign the convention which would protect all migrant workers and their families, regardless of whether they are in they are in the country legally or not.

It is one of the seven core UN Human Right's Treaties, the other six of which Ireland has already ratified.

Fiona Crowley, from Amnesty International, said that Ireland should sign the convention and act as a model to other EU countries.
