Ireland is unnecessarily spending millions on imported energy every week, according to Sustainable Energy Ireland.

The group is hosting the country’s first renewable energy forum in Cork today.

Spokesman Paul Dykes says that Ireland has a worrying trend of increasing gas house emissions.

Mr Dykes said: "Climate change or global warming is no longer a phenomenon, it is a reality and if not tackled urgently will have a dramatic effect on everyone's lives and it is a fact that renewable energy sources are clean, they're eco-friendly and they don't actually emit any harmful greenhouse gases at all."
