Man dies following road crash
A man died in hospital today after a road crash in which the driver was arrested for drink-driving.
The 22-year-old is the third person to die on the country's roads this weekend and the 42nd road death of the year.
Gardaí said he was a passenger in a car which crashed at 1.15am at Derrypatrick Grange, Dunsaney, Co Meath.
Three men, two passengers and the driver, were injured and taken to Navan Hospital for treatment where the 22-year-old died hours later.
The second passenger, a 23-year-old man, remains in a serious condition.
The Garda Press Office said the driver, also 23, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was questioned at Trim Garda Station.
He was subsequently released pending a full investigation of the circumstances of the collision.
Elsewhere, a 25-year-old woman was killed in a car crash in Cork in the early hours of today.
She was driving on the main Mallow to Limerick Road at about 3.30am when she lost control of her car at Lissavoura, Rathduff, Greagh.
A man who was travelling in the car with her was taken to Cork University Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have seen the car, a red Ford Fiesta Hatchback with a registration number which began '06-L' to contact them.
On Saturday a young man from the Waterside in Derry was killed at a notorious accident black-spot in Co Donegal.
Sean Duddy from Gelvin Gardens in the city was driving on the main Derry to Moville Road when he crashed at Three Trees, Quigley's Point at around 2.30am.
Gardaí said he lost control of the car, ploughed through a roadside ditch and ended up in a field.
A 19-year-old man who was also in the car suffered minor injuries and was treated in Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.
The main Derry to Moville Road will be closed until tomorrow as gardaí investigate.
