Cowen wins confidence motion

The Taoiseach Brian Cowen has won a confidence vote in the Dáil by 82 votes to 77.

The Taoiseach Brian Cowen has won a confidence vote in the Dáil by 82 votes to 77.

Earlier Mr Cowen defended his record when he was the Minister for Finance, and rejected suggestions that his policies were to blame for the banking crisis.

A motion of no-confidence was tabled by Fine Gael last week when two banking reports said Government policies contributed to the banking collapse.
