Man dies in Dundalk house fire

A man has died following a fire at a house in Dundalk, Co Louth, in the early hours of this morning.

A man has died following a fire at a house in Dundalk, Co Louth, in the early hours of this morning.

The blaze broke out at around 4.30am in a house converted into flats on St Mary’s Road.

Firefighters rescued the man from the bathroom of a ground-floor flat and performed CPR until the ambulance service arrived, but he died later from his injuries.

Three people, a man and two women, were also rescued from an upstairs flat.

Gardaí are preserving the scene of the blaze for technical examination later today.
