Seamus Murphy has officially stepped down from his role as Wexford's senior hurling manager.
The Rathnure clubman has been involved with hurling teams for the past 25 years and, "for his and his family's sake", is to take a break from the game next season.
Murphy saw out the two years of his term with the Model county - both seasons ended disappointingly with All-Ireland SHC quarter-final defeats to Clare.
The Banner men ended Wexford's championship run in 2005, beating them by 1-20 to 0-12, while Anthony Daly's side notched a 1-27 to 1-15 victory when the sides met recently on July 23.
During Murphy's reign, Wexford failed to retain the Leinster SHC title they won under John Conran in 2004, but there was one chink of light when the county's Intermediate hurlers, under Murphy's guidance, claimed their first All-Ireland championship since 1964 last September.
“As manager I could not praise the (senior) panel of players enough for their dedication and commitment even though it may not have always appeared that way in the public eye," Murphy admitted.
“Unfortunately I have no silverware to show for my two years with the seniors but hopefully in the near future it will come to this Wexford team and I wish them well."
