Noddy is to make his TV return later this year after Channel 5 snapped up 100 episodes of the children’s show, it was announced today.

The character is being revived in a computer generated series Make Way For Noddy, which is expected to spark a merchandising boom.

The show will be part of C5’s Milkshake pre-school slot whose programmes Roli Polie Olie and Bear In The Big Blue House have recently been drawing more viewers than Channel 4’s new breakfast show Ri:se.

Nick Tamblyn, chief executive of Chorion plc, which owns Noddy rights, said: ‘‘The UK is clearly an important market for Noddy and we are pleased the series, which has already been sold in 18 territories worldwide, will soon be available to Noddy’s loyal UK audience.’’

Nick Wilson, controller of children’s programmes at Channel 5, said: ‘‘We are building on our portfolio of great children’s animation to ensure that Channel 5 is the leading terrestrial broadcaster of children’s programmes.’’

The new series uses sophisticated techniques to bring the children’s favourite to life.

Cuddly toys, videos, DVDs, books and a Noddy magazine will be launched in the UK and around the world from the autumn.
