Irish student in hospital after attack in Chicago

A 23-year-old Irish student is in a critical condition in a Chicago hospital after being attacked in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A 23-year-old Irish student is in a critical condition in a Chicago hospital after being attacked in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The victim, Natasha McShane, a postgraduate student from UCD, was studying at the University of Illinois.

It is understood Natasha and a friend were attacked as they walked home from a night out.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to her family who are currently en route to Chicago.
