BBC’s free digital service is having its launch in Ireland today.
The BBC will broadcast eight digital TV channels, and its digital radio channels via new satellite.
These channels plus an additional 90 channels broadcast on the same satellite can be picked up by anyone in Ireland with a satellite and dish and a set-top box.
RTE is concerned about the new service and the Government is to look into the effect the new service may have on plans for an Irish digital terrestrial TV service.
