Home Care Association 'appalled but not surprised'

The Home Care Association says it is appalled but not surprised at the abuse and neglect of older people uncovered in last night's 'Prime Time' programme.

The Home Care Association says it is appalled but not surprised at the abuse and neglect of older people uncovered in last night's 'Prime Time' programme.

It has prompted calls for urgent regulation of the home care sector and the HSE is now conducting a review into the standard of care currently being provided.

Ed Murphy from the Home Care Association, which represents 50 providers around the country, said that he is not surprised by what was uncovered in the programme because of the severe lack of regulation.

"It’s only normal that something like this is going to happen when there’s no regulation in place," he said.
