Missing Donegal trawler returning to port after search

An Irish fishing vessel is returning to port in Donegal after a major sea search operation this morning.

An Irish fishing vessel is returning to port in Donegal after a major sea search operation this morning.

The Clyde Coastguard in Scotland picked up distress call from the Sligo-registered Giolla na Mara in the early hours of this morning.

A helicopter and two lifeboats were launched to search for the vessel.

It emerged the boat has been struck by lightning, and its communications systems were damaged.
