Investigations are underway after an armed gang attacked a house in Limerick last night.

It is understood a live grenade was thrown at the premises in O'Malley Park shortly before 9pm last night.

The device exploded in the garden, creating a large crater in the ground, after which the gang fired a number of shots at the house before they fled.

The house was occupied at the time, but no one was injured in the attack.

A technical examination will continue this morning.
