Second-half charge sees Westmeath through

Paidi O’Se has guided his Westmeath outfit through to the O’Byrne Cup final, thanks to a 0-16 to 2-8 win over Carlow in Mullingar this afternoon.

They will meet neighbours Meath who came through a tempestuous tussle with Offaly at Navan, winning out 2-9 to 0-10.

Denis Glennon (0-4) and Joe Fallon (0-3) continued their strong early season form as Westmeath came from a 1-5 to 0-5 deficit at the break to defeat Carlow by two points.

Dessie Dolan was also on target with Brian Kelly striking the visitors’ goal.

Meath 2-9 Offaly 0-10, Navan

Meath relied on the strength of a second half goal from Shane McKeigue to see them through at Navan.

Joe Sheridan had earlier goaled (12th minute) for the Royals to see them level with Offaly, 1-4 to 0-7 at half time.

The game descended in quality in the second period with Meath awarded six yellow cards and the visitors five.
