Elderly woman forced to pay Dublin City Council €1,500 over satellite dish

The Taoiseach has appealed for "common sense" in the case of a 90-year-old woman who is facing a huge legal bill in a row over a satellite dish.

Anne Rudd from Terenure will not be prosecuted for putting up the dish, which was installed in breach of planning rules.

But the dish, which was a Christmas present from her children, will now see her forced to pay Dublin City Council's legal costs of €1,500.

In the Dáil Enda Kenny said common sense should have been applied to keep the matter out of court: "You don't need a clause in that, that requires common sense, I don't know the details of the senior citizen, I've heard just the headlines on the radio.

"Clearly anybody dealing with an issue like that should be able to apply a measure of common sense and not have this end up in court."
