The controversy over spending at FAS is set to come under the spotlight again today when officials from the State training agency appear before the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee.
The new FAS director Paul O'Toole and outgoing chairman Peter McLoone are due to be questioned about huge levels of wasteful spending at the agency in recent years.
A recent report from the Comptroller and Auditor General revealed very lax budgetary controls and wasteful spending on advertising and promotion, including €600,000 spent on a TV ad that was never broadcast.
An employers' representative on the FAS board is quoted this morning as saying that some of the spending was deliberately concealed from the board, which is due to be replaced shortly.
