Farmers have hit out at the Minister for Agriculture's decision to give more than two thirds of EU compensation from the shutting down of the sugar industry in Ireland to Greencore.
The Irish Farmers' Association had called for beet growers to be given 75% of the €145m package.
EU sugar reforms have led to the closure of Greencore factories in Carlow and Mallow, and the end of the Irish beet industry.
IFA President Padraig Walshe has described today's decision by the Minister for Agriculture Mary Coughlan to allocate almost €100m to Greencore as one of the most flawed decisions ever presided over by this Government.
Mr Walshe said the reality is the Minister backed big business against farm families, which "is the final insult after 80 years of growing beet".
