Fashion retailer Next today said it remained on track to meet profit targets, but warned it expected a further decline in sales during 2009.
The group said like-for-like sales were down 4.4% in the 14 weeks to November 1 - within its expectations for retail same-store sales to be down by between 4% and 7% in the autumn and winter season.
It described the outlook for consumer demand in 2009 as mixed and said it expected negative like-for-like figures to continue throughout next year, although “not necessarily at any worse rate than the current year”.
