Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde has been handed a worldwide two-year doping ban.

Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde has been handed a worldwide two-year doping ban.

The ruling comes courtesy of a successful appeal by the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The 30-year-old is now banned from competition for a two-year-period beginning on January 1 this year – however CAS decided they would not annul any results achieved by Valverde prior to that date.
