Dentists to display private fees

Dental practices throughout Ireland will be obliged to display private fees from June 1.

The Dental Council is issuing a new Code of Practice today making it mandatory for dentists to display private fees in a place where patients can view them before consultation.

Patients will be able to check fees in advance for a range of treatments including examinations, X-rays, routine and surgical extractions, root canal treatment and crowns.

The move is being made to promote transparency and enhance public confidence in the profession.

It has been welcomed by the National Consumer Agency, which said the move will enhance public confidence and enable consumers to make more informed choices about their dental treatment.
