Deery a doubt for Candystripes' trip to Dundalk

Dundalk and Derry City meet in tonight’s Airtricity League Premier Division clash at Oriel Park, kick-off 7.45pm.

The home side have gone seven games unbeaten in the Premier Division, while the Candystripes have lost just one of their last 12 league encounters.

Ian Foster’s Dundalk are one of four clubs tied on 22 points looking to stay in touch with the leading pack.

The Lilywhites remain without Eoghan Osborne (fractured tibia), Stephen Maher (groin), Stephen McDonnell (knee) and Jason Byrne (hamstring), while Ross Gaynor misses out through suspension.

Dundalk midfielder Keith Ward said: “It’s a big test for us to see where we are. We know that we can beat anyone on our day.

“If we can get four points or maybe two wins (from our next two games), it will show that we’re ready to kick on for the league.”

Kevin Deery is a doubt for Derry as he is struggling with a calf injury.

Otherwise, City boss Stephen Kenny has a full squad to choose from.

Kenny said: “Dundalk has always been a tough place to go, not to mention their third generation pitch, but we will be well prepared.

“They have signed some top quality players, Jason Byrne for example, who has won several league titles. Last week’s draw (with Bray) was disappointing but our players are ready to bounce back.”
