A bus has collided with a truck tanker in central Sudan, leaving at least 21 people dead and 50 injured.

The death toll may rise because many of the injured are in a critical condition.

The accident took place late on Friday near Kotsu, 137 miles south of Khartoum, when the bus punctured a front tire and hit a tanker.

Road traffic is busier than usual in Sudan as most people are returning to Khartoum following the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.
