The Health and Safety Authority has launched an advertising campaign to promote greater safety on construction sites.

Last year 17 people died in accidents on sites and 11 people have lost their lives so far this year.

The Health and Safety Authority said it estimated the high death and injury rate on Irish sites was costing the construction industry €20m-a-year.

The television adverts launched today highlight the dangers of building sites and the impact accidents can have on the families of victims and the companies involved.
