A North Korean spy slipped into South Korea among the crowds of defectors fleeing the impoverished communist state, it was reported.

It was the first reported case of a spy using the flow of defectors from North Korea to infiltrate the South.

If true, the reports confirm that despite recent strides in political reconciliation on the divided Korean Peninsula, the communist North still dispatches spies against the South, with which it technically remains at war.

Quoting anonymous intelligence sources, South Korea’s JoongAng Ilbo reported that a 28-year-old North Korean spy, identified only by his last name, Lee, gathered information on defectors and South Korean authorities’ handling of them and reported to Pyongyang.
