Emperor Akihito of Japan is in hospital for prostate tests to follow up on earlier examinations that indicated a possible problem, a palace official said.

Emperor Akihito of Japan is in hospital for prostate tests to follow up on earlier examinations that indicated a possible problem, a palace official said.

Akihito, who is 69, was to have the test conducted at a hospital on the grounds of the Imperial Palace and was expected to be released tomorrow, the spokesman said.

The emperor has not had prostate problems in the past and is feeling well, the official said. The results of Tuesday’s tests will be announced at the beginning of the new year, he said.
