Most workers reach for the bottle after a hard day in the office, turning to booze to relieve their stress, according to a new report published in Britain.
Research among 1,000 people aged between 20 and 35 found that three out of four believe alcohol is the best way to wind down after a tense time at work.
Around half of those questioned by employment agency Connections said they would rather take some form of exercise to ease stress, while one in four took drugs.
One in five admitting they slumped in front of the television at the end of the working day.
Michelle Kingsley, director of Connections, said: “This is clearly the work hard, play hard generation, putting in long hours and demanding instant gratification to relieve tension.
“While a little bit of pressure can be a good thing as it can be a motivator, serious stress affects both well-being and work performance.
“It is up to employers to monitor stress levels and introduce measures to reduce workplace stress.”
