Bev Callard is returning to ‘Coronation Street’ after four months sick leave.

The actress – who plays Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald in the ITV soap – has been absent from the show since February amid money troubles at the real-life Cheshire pub she runs with partner John McEwan.

Following a period of recuperation the 52-year-old star is said to be excited about returning to filming next week.

A source said: “Bev’s been given the all clear by experts and will be back. The cast are over the moon.

“She’s had a rough ride off-screen in the past year but Bev’s a fighter and was determined to get back on track as soon as possible.

“It’s great news for viewers too. Liz has consistently been a favourite character – the show isn’t the same without her.”

Bev and John eventually had to close their pub, The Gallery, amid threats of bankruptcy, despite working long hours to make the venture a success.

A friend of the told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “Not only was Bev under incredible stress, she was also working flat out. But she’s pulled herself together and finally has that bubbly smile back on her face.

“John’s been a tower of strength for her throughout.”

Bev’s first scenes back will be shown approximately nine weeks time.
