Fine Gael has welcomed the results of this morning’s opinion poll, which showed that the party’s support has risen to 23%.

Spokesman Brian Hayes said the survey provided a significant boost for Fine Gael.

“I’m confident as we go forward that we will get the lion’s share of the undecideds because we’re winning the arguments on healthcare, we’re winning the arguments on crime,” he said.

Fianna Fail has also welcomed the poll, which gave them 45% support, but party leader Bertie Ahern said it was just a poll and Fianna Fail must still fight the election campaign.
