Clarke and Love half gripping match

Darren Clarke has halved his Ryder Cup match with Davis Love.

Darren Clarke has halved his Ryder Cup match with Davis Love.

Love birdied the long second to draw first blood.

Clarke holes a 10-footer for two at the next, but bogeys the fifth and cannot match his opponent’s birdie at the next.

Love, though, bogeys the eighth and turns only one ahead.

Clarke makes a 35-footer from off the green at the 11th, only for Love to follow him in from 20 for a half in birdie threes.

When Clarke bogeyed the 14th he was two down, but he birdied the 16th from six feet and then miraculously chipped in from a horrid lie over the 17th green.

After Love drove into heavy rough on the last he left himself a five-foot par putt, but missed it.

Clarke was left with a four-footer for victory, but that lipped out and they halved.
