Figures released today show that British manufacturing output leaped by 1% in October from September, backing up survey evidence of a recovery in British manufacturing.
The Office for National Statistics said that this was the biggest increase since July 2002 and that the increase was evenly spread with the biggest climbs in the chemical and electrical equipment sectors. The annual rate of increase is now 2.4%.
Separate figures show that factory gate prices, the cost of goods before taxes and duty, rose 0.1% in November compared with October, while the cost of raw materials remains steady.
