Fingal County Council has agreed to continue to collect household waste free of charge for the time being.

It follows the expiry of an interim High Court injunction won by Socialist TD Joe Higgins against the council's bin tax.

The Dublin West deputy brought the case on the grounds that the charge was an "unjust local levy".

The case has been adjourned until May 29.
