The number of job advertisements in the Irish national media has increased by 11% in the past year, according to the Bank of Ireland’s latest jobs index.

The bank said today that 56,000 jobs were advertised in the first three months of this year, up 11% on the same period last year.

17,500 of these jobs were advertised last month alone. The jobs index also showed that 80% of workers in Ireland were employed in the private sector.

Bank of Ireland economists have stated that Ireland is currently on the verge of full employment and demand for workers could soon exceed labour supply.

These economists believe foreign nationals will be needed to fill vacancies in the near future.
