The actor Ryan O’Neal – whose long-term partner Farrah Fawcett died last June after losing her battle against cancer – is said to be dating iconic 70s poster girl Cheryl Tiegs and sources claims the pair are smitten with each other.

One said: “It’s a full-blown love affair.”

The pair have been on a string of dates and onlookers say they look very happy with each other, according to National Enquirer magazine.

During a recent party for Beverly Hills socialite Nikki Haskell one said: “They spent most of the night sitting very close together on the terrace, talking."

At a bash for Raquel Welch’s new book last week, Ryan had his arm around Cheryl’s waist and a fellow guest noted: "It was clear that they were very happy together."

Ryan, 69, and 62-year-old Cheryl have been friends for a long time but lost contact before reconnecting after she attended Farrah’s funeral.

During the wake, Ryan has since admitted he accidently flirted with his daughter Tatum O’Neal after he didn’t recognise her.

He said: "I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me. I said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me - Tatum!'

"I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman and it's my daughter. It's so sick.”
