CSKA Moscow and Sporting Lisbon will contest the UEFA Cup final at Sporting’s own Jose Alvalade Stadium.

An inspirational performance from Brazilian playmaker Carvalho sealed CSKA’s place with a dominant 3-0 win over Parma in the Lokomotiv Stadium.

Sporting won through on away goals thanks to a headed goal by Miguel Garcia in the final seconds of extra-time to break AZ Alkmaar hearts.

In Moscow, after a 0-0 draw in the first leg, CSKA overwhelmed Pietro Carmignani’s men with Carvalho scoring twice and setting up the other goal.

It was CSKA’s first win over Italian opposition on home soil but they could find themselves facing stiff sanctions from UEFA after Parma goalkeeper Luca Bucci was forced from the pitch in the 20th minute after being hit by a flare thrown from the crowd.

The home side took a ninth minute lead through Carvalho, who ended a surging run from Yuri Zhirkov with a good finish.

CSKA went 2-0 ahead with Carvalho’s second goal of the game in the 53rd minute, after good work from Vagner Love.

And Parma were sunk six minutes later as Vassili Berezoutski made it three with Carvalho yet again involved as his free-kick was headed in by the defender.

The final whistle sparked party time in Moscow and would have brought a smile to the face of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, whose Sibneft company bankrolls CSKA on a grand scale.

Sporting won through in dramatic circumstances against AZ Alkmaar.

Denmark striker Kenneth Perez’s close-range header gave Alkmaar an away-goal lead in the sixth minute but Sporting forged back ahead at 3-2, 1-1 on the night, with a goal from Brazilian marksman Liedson.

Incredibly the home side hit back again though as Stein Huysegems followed up on a mix-up in the Sporting defence to take the tie to extra-time and then Kew Jaliens volleyed in following a right-wing corner.

They were just seconds away from booking their place in the final when Miguel Garcia got ahead of AZ goalkeeper Henk Timmer and nodded in an inswinging corner from the right at the near post to take his side through instead.
