The 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme will be marked by the Irish Government next year.

The 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme will be marked by the Irish Government next year.

The commemoration plans will be announced by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Charles Flanagan and the Minister for Arts and Heritage Heather Humphreys.

The programme will form part of the decade of centenaries.

Minister for Heritage Heather Humphreys, has said there will be a special ceremony in Dublin next year to remember the start of the Battle of the Somme.

“There’ll be a military ceremony that will be held on July 1, at 7.20am in the morning, at the Irish National War Memorial in IslandBridge, and that will honour the Irish regiments who fought at the Somme.”
