Megson frustrated at being in limbo

Bolton manager Gary Megson’s plans for next season are being frustrated by his side’s inability to secure their Barclays Premier League future.

Wanderers are seven points clear of the relegation zone with four matches remaining but Megson does not feel safe enough to begin preparations for next season.

Bolton have one of the smallest squads in the top flight and need a number of reinforcements in the summer but no definite decisions will be made until they are sure of another season in the top flight.

“It’s very difficult because you are looking at players and thinking ’We’ll go for him – if...’,” Megson told the Bolton News.

“As soon as we get rid of that ’if’ we’ll be able to put a bit more flesh on the bones.”

Defender Gary Cahill is targeting an unbeaten run in their remaining games against Wigan, Sunderland, Hull and Manchester City.

Wanderers have been frustratingly inconsistent in the last couple of months with the sequence of results being won-lost-lost-drawn-won-lost-lost-drawn.

Cahill believes they have to cut out the defeats if they are to finish the campaign on a high.

“The aim is to go from now until the end of the season without losing a game,” he told Wanderers World.

“From the last four games we have got two at home (against Wigan and Hull) and they are winnable games.

“The important thing is we don’t lose.”

Cahill also backed Tamir Cohen to have an impact after scoring in only his second match of an injury-ruined season.

“He has come back from injury and he is a good footballer. He’ll be looking to stay in the team,” added the centre-back.

The Israeli grabbed the equaliser against Aston Villa at the weekend and is keen to make up for lost time.

“I want to get better and improve every session I play,” he said.

“It has been a very hard year for me. I was injured for five months and I’m only now getting back match fit.

“I’m happy for the chance and maybe made the gaffer think about me for the next game.”
