Ireland’s Ken Doherty will meet Anthony Hamilton in the quarter-finals of the China Open after Hamilton beat Quentin Hann 5-3 in Shanghai yesterday.
Elsewhere, Ronnie O’Sullivan needed just 67 minutes to secure his place in the last-eight after beating Jimmy White 5-1. O’Sullivan goes on to play British teenager Mark Selby, who has already knocked Joe Swail and Stephen Hendry out of the competition.
John Higgins also qualified for a place in the last-eight this morning with a 5-2 win over Dave Harold, while Welsh veteran Darren Morgan beat Marco Fu by the same scoreline.
The battle for the remaining two quarter-final places begins later this morning, with Steve Davis due to meet Mark Williams and Stephen Lee due to face Paul Hunter, who won the Benson and Hedges Masters three weeks ago.
