Ronaldo’s sister says vandals who damaged statue of the star ‘deserve to live in Syria’

Katie Aveiro, sister of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, has a controversial punishment in mind for vandals who daubed graffiti on a statue of the star.

The large statue of the Portuguese footballer is on display in his hometown of Madeira.

Following the announcement earlier this week that he had come second to Lionel Messi in the Ballon D’Or, the statue was vandalised with paint.

Messi’s name and Barcelona squad number, 10, were daubed on its back.

Aveiro was understandably upset by this, but an angry outburst by her on Twitter has raised some eyebrows.

She tweeted to say she was “angry, sad, disappointed and speechless”.

But she also said in the post: “My beautiful island, regrettably, is still inhabited by some frustrated savages who deserve to live in Syria, between people that show no respect and hold no value for life in society.

“I apologise for the ones who live the sadness of war, but I believe some people don’t belong on the land they live in.”

Sending vandals to a warzone for pouring paint on a statue of a footballer?

Maybe just a tad excessive.
