David Moyes is expected to continue with teenager James Vaughan in his front line on Monday at Aston Villa.
The Birmingham-born youngster started his first full game for the club a fortnight ago in the home win over Arsenal, ahead of the more experienced James Beattie and with another youngster, Victor Anichebe on the bench.
When Vaughan came off in that match it was Anichebe who took over, leaving Beattie still on the bench.
It was a decision not lost on the Everton fans, who now believe Moyes will continue to give the young duo their chance ahead of Beattie.
And Moyes is confident that Vaughan can impress again at Villa Park, having fought his way back to full fitness after a serious knee injury almost destroyed his young career.
Moyes says: “Vaughan recently had a little dip in form, but he has bounced back. But this is a lad who missed 14 months of football due to terrible injuries and he has only just got himself back up to the right level of fitness.
“But if he continues like he is, certainly the way he played against Arsenal, we will be more than happy.
“He has an abundance of desire and attitude to make it as a player. But we need to work a bit on the technical side and we are doing that with him.
“He’s only started one match in the league, the rest have been from the bench. But if he looks right and ready to play, he will do so.
“He was the one who looked sharpest in the week leading up to the Arsenal game, and I chose him. It was the right decision.
“Victor Anichebe got into the side this season first, but is getting a bit hard for him now and he needs to be taken out of the firing line, which is why James is getting his chance.”
He added: “It is terrific to see youngsters you have produced coming through, the more the better.
“Just think back a few years when Manchester United had the Nevilles, Beckham and Scholes coming through. It would be great to get even a half of that many coming through at one time.
“But we have got two young strikers doing that and we couldn’t be happier. Their best years are still to come.”
Everton are expected to field the side that beat Arsenal two weeks ago, with Moyes needing to check on the fitness of several players who have returned from international duty.
