Connections of Captain Royale hope the promising juvenile can hold his own at the highest level in Sunday’s Independent Waterford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.
Jeremy Noseda’s charge will be the sole British raider in the six-furlong Group One contest, in which he faces stern opposition from the likes of Henrythenavigator and Elletelle.
Not seen since sluicing home in lesser company back in June, Captain Royale will bid for his second success of the year in the Irish feature.
Noseda said: “I’ve been very happy with the horse but this is a big step up in class.
“I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that the forecast rain for Saturday afternoon and evening arrives,” he told www.jeremynoseda.com.
“For the horse to have his best chance, we need the ground to be soft or heavy. The six-furlong trip is perfect for him at this point.”
